Facebook Phishing
Summary
A huge phishing campaign is hitting Facebook and Messenger. Millions have been phished thus far this year. Researchers do not know how it started, but they do know the campaign keeps going by compromising accounts.
An account that is taken over sends links to that account’s friends through the Messenger app. The links lead to a landing page that asks for their username and password before sending them on to another destination. Once the username and password are obtained, the process repeats with the new account’s friends list.
Take Aways
- Keep an eye out for phishing red flags not only in emails, but also while on social media.
- Keep an eye out for posts that are out of character from your friends or contacts in case they have been taken over.
- Secure your social media accounts with MFA.
